作品情報：
奥村靫正氏がデザインしたレコード・ジャケットのオリジナルを、シルクスクリーンで最新の作品として奥村氏が再構築した新作です。
奥村さんが描いた『BGM』の原画、そのままを活かした作品。インクジェットでは表現できない透明な乳白インクが、独自の存在感を放ちます。

奥村靫正・本人による作品解説：
これはもうレコード・ジャケットそのままといいますか、原画を使ったオリジナルに近い作品です。
何かテクスチャーがほしいと思って水玉模様を入れたり、新たな温泉マークを付けましたが、当時のイメージをそのままを活かしています。
ちなみにこのジャケットの絵とデザインが生まれた背景ですが、それまでのYMOのイメージからどれだけ遠くに離れられるかというテーマを探しているとき、事務所にある膨大な写真や雑誌のスクラップを見ていたら、1960年代のアメリカの雑誌に載っていた歯ブラシの広告が目に止まりました。これを数時間で透明水彩で一気に模写しました。

私は初期の頃からかなりの時間、YMOのメンバーと一緒にいることが多く、周辺の仕事でも色々と絡んでもいましたし、スタジオにも結構いました。
その後YMOがかなり売れるようになり、オリジナリティを求めるようになったときに、私が全面的にアートディレクターとして参加することになりました。
私がYMOのアルバム・ジャケットのデザインを手がけたのは、この『BGM』が最初になります。
アーティスト写真もなく、今までのYMOと繋がらないコンセプトで、強いインパクトがあるものということで、このイメージにたどり着きました。これに関してはYMOメンバー3人とも即OKをいただきました。
ちなみにオリジナルの日本盤のレコード・ジャケットは、CMYKの4色で刷った後に白のオペーク・インクで２度刷った計６色の印刷になっています。２回刷らないと、この白の濃さは出ないんです。
書体は当時の事務所にあった英文のゴム印を使っています。

Commentary by Yukimasa Okumura
This is a work that is very close to the original, using the original artwork, as if it were the record jacket itself.
I wanted to add some texture, so I added polka dots and a new onsen mark, but I have kept the image as it was at the time.
By the way, the background of how this jacket picture and design came about is that when I was looking for a theme of how far away from the image of YMO I could get, I was looking through the huge number of photos and magazine scraps in my office, and an advertisement for a toothbrush in an American magazine from the 1960s caught my eyes. I copied this at once with transparent watercolor in a few hours.

Commentary on the jacket by Yukimasa Okumura
I spent a lot of time with the members of YMO in the early days and was involved in a lot of related work around the group, and also spent quite a bit of time in the studio.
Later, when YMO started to sell quite well, and people started to look for originality, I became fully involved as the art director.
BGM was the first album jacket I designed for YMO.
I came up with this image in order to create a strong impact with a concept that had no artist photo and was not connected to the previous YMO works. All three YMO members immediately consented to this.
The original Japanese record jacket was printed with four CMYK colors and then printed twice with white opaque ink for a total of six colors.
The typeface is an English rubber stamp that existed in the office at the time.
