作品情報：
本作は、奥村靫正氏が手がけたオリジナルデザインを、ご本人の手でシルクスクリーンにより再構築する新作プロジェクトです。
モチーフとなっているのは、1985年に東京ADC賞を受賞し、亀倉雄策氏による「日本のポスター100」に選ばれた奥村氏の代表作、細野晴臣さんのアルバム『S-F-X』のポスター。銀色の紙に14版を重ねた贅沢な仕様となっており、その圧倒的な存在感と迫力は、ぜひ現物でご体感ください。

※ツヤのある銀色の紙に印刷しているため、絵を眺めると自分の姿が映り込むほどの美しい光沢があります。この質感は画像ではなかなか伝わらないのが残念ですが、ぜひ実物でご覧いただきたい仕上がりです。

奥村靫正・本人による作品解説：
今回、版を14版使用しています。刷っている順番で並べると、以下の通りです。（１）背景・ホワイト（２）空の網点・ブルーグレー（３）顔・ベージュ（４）ヘルメット・ホワイト（５）イエロー（６）淡マゼンタ（７）中間マゼンタ（８）淡グリーン（９）中間グリーン（10）濃マゼンタ（11）服・グリーン（12）スミ（13）外枠・マゼンタ（14）書体・シルバー。紙はアルミ蒸着ペットフィルム貼合紙の「コンパッソ」を使用しました。S-F-Xの書体は新たなスクリプトとして、今回私が作りました。抜き文字になっていて、背景の銀色の紙を活かした表現にしています。

奥村靫正・本人によるジャケットデザイン解説：
アルバム『S-F-X』で細野晴臣さんが映画の手法を想起させる音作りをしていたことから、ビジュアルにおいても「映画」という発想を軸に据えて、光学的なアプローチを試みました。十数枚におよぶフィルム用スクリーンマスクを制作し、写真の多重露光による印画によって新たな図像を次々とはめ込んでいく――そうした暗室作業によって生まれた作品です。この手法を使った作品は本作だけです。
素材は、私が撮影した細野さんのポートレートと、楽曲『アンドロジーナ』にちなんだ女性のイラストレーションの2点を最初に用意しました。目線や顔の角度を合わせて合成し、素材チップの分割・移動・マスキングに加えて、建築・植物・動物のマチエールを焼き込む工程を幾度も重ねています。そうして2枚のポートレートはチップの増殖とともに変容していき、最終的に東京の都市景観へと至るまで、約70点におよぶ印画作品を制作しました。これらの中からランダムに抜粋し、レコードジャケット、雑誌広告、ポスターなど各種メディアに展開しています。
制作当時、自身でも「これはすごいものができている」という強い実感がありました。私が手がけた仕事の中でも特別な作品で、30代の代表作のひとつだと考えています。

Artwork Information
This new project involves Mr. Yukimasa Okumura personally recreating his original designs using silkscreen printing.
The motif is the poster for Haruomi Hosono’s album “S-F-X”—a representative work by Mr. Okumura that won the Tokyo ADC Award in 1985 and was selected for Yusaku Kamekura’s ”100 Japanese Posters”. It features a luxurious design with 14 layers printed on silver paper; we invite you to experience its overwhelming presence and impact in person.

*Since it is printed on glossy silver paper, it has such a beautiful sheen that you can see your own reflection when you look at the illustration. It’s a shame that this texture is hard to capture in a photo, but it’s a finish we really hope you’ll see in person.

Artist’s Commentary by Yukimasa Okumura:
For this project, we are using 14 printing plates. Listed in the order they are printed, they are as follows: (1) Background: White (2) Sparse Dots: Blue-Gray (3) Face: Beige (4) Helmet: White (5) Yellow (6) Light Magenta (7) Medium Magenta (8) Light Green (9) Medium Green (10) Dark Magenta (11) Clothing: Green (12) Black (13) Outer border: Magenta (14) Text: Silver. For the paper, I used “Compasso,” an aluminum-sputtered PET film-laminated paper. I created the S-F-X typeface myself as a new script font for this project. The letters are cut out, allowing the silver background paper to shine through.

Cover Design Commentary by Yukimasa Okumura:
Since Haruomi Hosono’s sound design on the album ”S-F-X” evoked cinematic techniques, we centered our visual concept on the idea of “film” and experimented with an optical approach.I created more than a dozen screen masks for film and, through multiple exposures of photographs, gradually layered new images one after another—this work was born from such darkroom processes.This is the only piece I’ve created using this technique.
To begin with, I prepared two source images: a portrait of Mr. Hosono that I had taken, and an illustration of a woman inspired by the song “Androgina.” I composited them by aligning their gazes and facial angles, and then repeatedly layered processes—including splitting, moving, and masking the image fragments—as well as incorporating textures of architecture, plants, and animals. As the two portraits transformed alongside the proliferation of these elements, I created approximately 70 photographic works, culminating in a representation of Tokyo’s urban landscape. I have randomly selected images from this collection and adapted them for various media, including record jackets, magazine advertisements, and posters.
At the time of creation, I had a strong sense that “something truly remarkable was taking shape.” It remains a special piece among my body of work, and I consider it one of my representative works from my thirties.
